A solitary Black woman walks along a winding country road toward a softly lit horizon beneath a pink-and-blue sky, with dense shadows behind her and an open landscape ahead.

What the Past Makes Possible

The past cannot be rewritten.

What happened remains part of our story. Still, what we hope to write next can change what we recognize in it.

A triumph may remind us of our capabilities.
A misstep may sharpen our judgment.
A season of waiting may reveal what we can endure.

An earlier experience can narrow what we believe is possible. It can also become a foundation we did not recognize while living through it.

We cannot return to yesterday and choose differently.

We can decide how we carry yesterday into today and tomorrow.

Looking allows us to consider what the past may still make possible.

As August begins, consider:

  • What did an obstacle you once considered insurmountable reveal about your capacity today?

  • What from your past could become a foundation for what comes next?

  • What choice can you make today that reflects the future you hope to create?

The future is shaped one day at a time.
